Where Compassionate Care
Brings Comfort and Joy
What Do Activities Look Like at The Kroh’s Nest?
We believe that a family that plays together, stays together! Our activities will depend largely on the preferences of those we serve. While we will offer regular opportunities for us to all have fun together. We really see this as a starting point for creating a vibrant and supportive platform for an individualized social life that is dependent on what each person desires, and the degree to which they would like to participate. We understand that moving from the comfort and familiarity of one’s own home to an adult foster home can feel like a significant loss of independence. At The Krohs Nest, we understand this transition and strive to fill that gap by offering a wide range of engaging activities tailored to each individual’s interests and abilities. Whether it’s creative arts, gentle exercise, social gatherings, or meaningful hobbies, our goal is to create an environment where residents feel empowered, connected, and fulfilled, helping to maintain a sense of purpose and joy in daily life.
For us, this is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do. We see this area as an open horizon with limitless possibilities! We will be planning day and (possibly overnight) trips to areas in Oregon (and beyond) where residents are able to safely experience all that our surroundings have to offer.
We have some creative ideas that range from homemade bread baking sessions to plant propagation to rockhounding in Eastern Oregon! Ever since our dream of opening an adult foster home was born, we’ve been collecting various crafting items to elevate the experience of creating something you are proud of, with your own hands. Some examples are making macrame, engraving stones or wood and picture framing.
You will see that Brad and I are both into plants of almost any kind. We have a variety of plants from blueberries to tropicals, both indoor and out. We have a strawberry patch that we created last year and additional outdoor space to add some raised beds to grow our own vegetables. We hope to share with our residents the valuable rewards we experience when being a part of Mother Nature. We even have a drinking fountain from an old school that we are planning to turn into a water feature for the yard!
We will plan a weekly check-in with each resident on Sundays. This will include any appointments or needs the resident has for the upcoming week. This will also entail meal planning and what that resident would like to do for the following week’s menu. We will then make a plan on who will do what, and when. This check-in will also include any needs or goals that are important to that particular resident, and what we need to do that week to meet those needs and attain those goals.
We will offer weekly opportunities for the residents to make new friends and attend events close to home. For instance, Concerts in the Park is about three blocks up the street from our house. We can all go together every Wednesday that they would like to attend, or they can go with friends. Also, we regularly attend Hope in the Grove Church every Sunday from 11am-12pm, and this will be a regular opportunity for folks to come, who share in our faith in God. We will accommodate any church services, if desired. You should also know that we’re very involved in the lives of our children and most importantly…our grandchildren. If you're ever in the mood for some craziness, hang around and meet the monkeys!
We have also purposefully left some blank areas in the home for the residents to hang some of their own pictures if they want.
We look forward to seeing how we shape and grow in this area as a family. We are 200% dedicated to opening up this home to others and creating OUR home with everyone together!
