What’s Going on in the Kitchen?

At The Kroh’s Nest, offering fresh fruits and vegetables whenever possible as a cornerstone of our commitment to providing wholesome and nourishing meals.  We prioritize seasonal, natural ingredients to ensure that every meal supports health, growth and well-being.  Our menu is thoughtfully designed to balance nutrition and comfort.  We honor and respect the diverse dietary preferences and cultural backgrounds of ALL our residents.  Our menu is flexible and adaptable to accommodate individual needs/preferences, ensuring everyone feels valued and cared for in a way that reflects their unique traditions and food choices.

We strongly encourage resident participation in meal planning and preparation.  Our menu will be adjusted according to diet needs, preferences of the residents and how much the residents want to participate in this process.  We will offer activities throughout the week that include planning meals, creating lists based on desired recipes and grocery shopping, as well as baking breads and desserts together.  Residents are welcome to participate as much or as little as they desire.

We will tailor our menu by adding healthy options to recipes, like various/seasonal whole fruits and vegetables whenever possible to increase the nutritional value of the meal.  For instance, we’ll be offering smoothies frequently in the morning.  A typical smoothie includes strawberries, blueberries, pears, cabbage, celery, carrots and red bell pepper.  Our salads are topped with fresh, local microgreens.   We will only be using processed foods when absolutely necessary.  For example, our ham and turkey will be cooked in the crock pot and sliced up for sandwiches, but our polish sausage will be a high quality store bought item.  Any questions or suggestions are welcome.  The menu is an aspect of OUR foster home that is very fluid and always revolving.  This allows for a unique food experience that is never boring, but at the same time, offers a simple diet with comfort foods that most people enjoy.
